JeffAtwood945309-05-2007I live in Berkeley, CA with my wife, two cats, and a whole lot of computers. I was weaned as a software developer on various implementations of Microsoft's BASIC in the 80's, starting with my first microcomputer, the Texas Instruments TI-99/4a. I continued on the PC with Visual Basic 3.0 and Windows 3.1 in the early 90's, although I also spent significant time writing Pascal code in the first versions of Delphi. I am now quite comfortable in VB.NET or C#, despite the evils of case sensitivity. I consider myself a reasonably experienced Windows software developer with a particular interest in the human side of software development, as represented in my recommended developer reading list. Computers are fascinating machines, but they're mostly a reflection of the people using them. In the art of software development, studying code isn't enough: you have to study the people behind the software, too.

RobertBiggs941028-28-2007I started off life as an interpreter: English to Spanish. From translation services I gradually shifted to the publishing world. Following a yearn for adventure, I headed for South Asia, where I spent seven years in Nepal, India and Sri Lanka. During this time I setup a humanitarian mission to provide food, medicine, clothing and education to underpriviledged slum children. When I came back to America I reentered the publishing industry. In the late 80's I began working with user interactive applications using scripting languages, such as HyperCard and Lingo. As the 90s ensued, I discovered Shell scripting, TCL and Perl. By 1997 I was doing Web development - CGI and client-side scripting. I have worked with ASP, JSP, Python, PHP, Ruby, Perl, and of course JavaScript. I've done stints at Healtheon, WebMD, the Federal Reserve Bank and Apple Inc. Presenting I work at Vertigo where I implement user interfaces for the applications we create. These encompass WPF, Silverlight and Web applications.
